RUMFORD — Mountain Valley High School seniors and their parents will have an opportunity to get a head start on the college application process during a college kickoff event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 24 and 25, at the school.

The event will cover the application process from starting college essays, learning and beginning scholarship search, senior year time lines and more.

Barb Radmore, the college access site coordinator for the high school, will host the event, but many of the sessions will be conducted by guest speakers who are experts in the field.

A college admission counselor from the University of Maine at Farmington will discuss the process from the college point of view.

A Partnerships for Success college access professional will help students begin writing the common application and English teacher John Bell will talk about the fine points of a good college essay and assist students in their own personal essays.

A session by Pam Crate of the Finance Authority of Maine will cover the importance of scholarships, introduce various scholarship search tools and students will be able to spend some time exploring the many options. Guidance office staff will talk about the critical dates and information needed throughout the student’s senior year.

For more information and to register, call Radmore at 491-5490.
