The Bath Times no longer enjoys the distinction of being “the only daily in Sagadahoc County,” and is delighted to welcome to the field a very brilliant contemporary in the Wynburg Crow published every evening or thereabouts at Wynburg, a thriving city of two houses and a huge barn. Wynburg is located on the northerly neck of land which divides the New Meadows river from Phippsburg basin.

50 years ago, 1960

Lewiston fire fighters jumped onto Garden Island in the Androscoggin River yesterday afternoon to put out a fast-spreading brush blaze.

Crews from Engines One and Six reached the island from a platform running below the railroad bridge and prevented the flames from spreading across the entire island. Deputy Chief Reginald A. Doucette said the fire probably was started by children playing on the island, located at the rear of P & P Fuel.

25 years ago 1985

A group of former Pine Tree Warriors drum and bugle corps members who organized after a 20th reunion six years ago has been incorporated as Les Indiens Snowshoe Club.

The club has new headquarters as well as a new status, according to spokesman Ray Levesque. Its clubrooms, formerly in the Warriors building on Lincoln Street in Lewiston, are now in the Pastime Club building on Cedar Street, he said.
