LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a free prostate cancer screening clinic for men ages 40 and over. The clinic will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at CMMC’s Central Maine Urology, 12 High St., Suite 205.
Paul Mailhot, M.D. and Michael Parker, M.D., will perform the examinations consisting of a digital rectal exam, urine screen and P.S.A., a blood test for prostate specific antigens.
Registrants will have to opportunity to speak with representatives and receive information from the Maine Coalition to Fight Prostate Cancer. The coalition, founded in 2005 by a group of five men, all prostate cancer survivors, is dedicated to ending the impact of prostate cancer on men, their loved ones and the State of Maine.
Prostate cancer is the most common nonskin cancer and affects one in six men. Those diagnosed in a local or regional stage have a nearly 100 percent chance of survival after five years.
