WILTON — The Police Department, along with Jay Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, will join in the “state’s largest collection of expired or unwanted prescription drugs” Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a statement from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
As part of the National Take-Back Day, the program provides an opportunity for the public to turn in expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs and other medications. The collection includes solid dosages such as tablets or capsules and is a way to collect and safely destroy the drugs and prevent pill abuse and theft.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency is coordinating efforts with most of Maine’s police departments, creating 119 collection sites.
Intravenous solutions, injectables and needles will not be accepted.
Collection sites in Franklin County, open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, include:
* Wilton Police Department on Main Street.
* Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy on Route 4 in Jay.
* Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, 123 County Way, Farmington.
