100 years ago, 1910

The blowing up of the Times building at Los Angeles, Calif., is of more than usual interest to people in Lewiston and Auburn because of the fact that Harry Andrews,  managing editor of the paper, formerly lived in this city where for many years he was engaged in newspaper work. Fortunately, Mr. Andrews was not in the Times building at the time of the explosion and, therefore, escaped uninjured.

50 years ago, 1960

The resignation of Auburn Fire Department Deputy Chief Thomas F. Maguire was accepted last night by the Auburn City Council, which also voted that he be made eligible for all pension benefits due him.

Maguire, a veteran member of the Auburn Fire Department, retired recently and announced at the time he had accepted employment with the Bates College maintenance department.

25 years ago, 1985

The state will be responsible for excavating and protecting a piece of land on Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport property where Indian artifacts were recently discovered, following the granting of an easement by airport directors Thursday.

The archaeological dig, which is located at the end of runway 4, was initiated after a required routine search of an area proposed for a new road connecting the Maine Turnpike with the industrial park.
