Anne Bills of the Department of Agriculture uses binoculars to get a closer look into the top of a birch tree at Bates College on Tuesday. She and other volunteers searched the campus for the Asian longhorned beetle. The survey is a chance for conservation officials to hunt for the bugs and to spread the word about them. People who suspect they have infested trees should contact the Maine Department of Agriculture office at 287-3891.
