LEWISTON — The Franco-American Heritage Center is offering a series of four workshops for people wanting to relearn their French language. The sessions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 11, 18, 25 and 31, at the center, 46 Cedar St.
The cost for the session is $60.
Doris Belisle-Bonneau will lead the series for Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding area Franco-Americans who were brought up speaking French in their homes but who have lost the use of the language. The classes are also offered to non-Francos who spoke French and want to improve it.
Bonneau will lead participants through activities using a variety of methods. Materials will include songs, stories, excerpts from film, photos and family histories.
Bonneau is a professional educational consultant and teacher, having worked in the educational field for more than 30 years. She has held numerous positions, such as curriculum coordinator and specialist, teacher of French and English, director of Gifted Education and Professional Development, supervisor of Instruction, consulting teacher for certification, assistant superintendent and other leadership roles.
She was educated at the University of Maine, University of Aix-Marseille and Summer French Institutes of Martinique, French West Indies and Lyon, France.
Bonneau is also active in the community and volunteers for numerous organizations, serving in different capacities, including board member, trustee and officer.
Everyone is invited to reawaken the French in them. Anyone uncomfortable speaking French because they have forgotten most of it or anyone who needs to practice with others is welcome.
