GREENE — An overnight police pursuit ended early Friday morning when the suspect stopped to gas up his car and then drove down a dead-end street.

Police say Brooks Noddin, 19, of Lewiston assaulted his grandmother and took her Ford Focus early Thursday night.

What followed was a series of chases through several towns where speeds reached 106 mph.

At about 9:30 p.m., police in Lewiston received a report from a woman who said she had been assaulted by her grandson, who took off in her car.

At the same time, a state trooper patrolling the turnpike spotted a car driving north at about 98 mph. When the trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped up to more than 100 mph.

The chase was on.

A Maine State Police trooper made note of the license plate on the speeding car. Shortly after, authorities learned it was the same vehicle that had been stolen in Lewiston.

“At that point, we had a fleeing felon,” Maine State Police Trooper Nathan Jamo said.

The driver was not alone, police said. There were passengers in the car, although it was not immediately known how many.

When the chase moved into the Augusta area, it was called off, police said, as the driver continued at dangerous speeds.

Police continued to investigate the incident in Lewiston. Then, at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, the stolen car was spotted on Russell Street and another chase was under way.

Jamo was in Lewiston near the end of his shift. He joined the pursuit, as did several Lewiston officers and others from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of the stolen car sped up Sabattus Street and into that town. Lewiston police made the call to end the chase as speeds continued to flirt with 100 mph.

At some point during the pursuit, police said, the driver pulled over to let his passengers bail out. They ran off into the woods and were still being sought Friday night.

Meanwhile, with the chase called off, Trooper Jamo was heading out of Lewiston. He was driving up Main Street when he spotted a familiar car at Cumberland Farms.

“He had been leading us in chases so long,” Jamo said, “he had to stop and gas up.”

The trooper pulled in behind the suspect vehicle and once again, the chase was on. Jamo followed the car up Route 202 and into Greene. It appeared the driver was not familiar with that town, Jamo said.

“He ended up turning onto Daggett Hill Road and then onto South River Road, which is a dead-end,” the trooper said.

The driver turned into a driveway and tried to make a U-turn back up South River Road. But Jamo was able to block the car with his cruiser. After a low-speed impact, the car came to a stop.

The trooper ordered the driver out of the vehicle. It was Noddin. He was arrested on multiple counts of eluding police and driving to endanger as well as driving without a license.

“The way he was driving, he definitely needed to be stopped,” Jamo said.

Noddin was taken to jail and Lewiston police were notified. He was charged with robbery in that city for the alleged attack on his grandmother. Police on Friday were waiting for a warrant to search the stolen car.

Noddin was arrested just two days after an Androscoggin County grand jury indicted him on unrelated charges.

Noddin was indicted Wednesday on charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief. He is accused of breaking into Gladu Roofing on Oct. 24 and stealing a computer.

In a separate indictment, Noddin is also accused of breaking into Dave’s Place, a bar, on Oct. 25 and stealing tobacco products.

Noddin has been summoned to appear in court on those charges.

He was being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on Friday night on $3,000 cash bail.
