CANTON — Three people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a collision on Route 108, police said.

Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dave Hodgson said Jesse Kroger, 18, of Peru lost control of his 2003 Honda sport utility vehicle as he was driving north. His SUV hit a 2006 Hyundai sedan driven south by Linda McLaughlin Dubois, 59, of Dixfield. Her vehicle went over an embankment.

When the driver of a 2003 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck, Mamadou Diokhane, of Providence, R.I., tried to avoid the accident, he hit the brakes, causing the rig to jackknife to the side to the road. Hodgson said the trailer was empty.

Dubois was taken by Med-Care Ambulance Service to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she was listed in stable condition early Wednesday evening, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Kroger and an unidentified female passenger were taken to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance Service where they were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Neither Diokhane nor a passenger with him were injured. However, Hodgson said the truck had thousands of dollars in damage.

Dubois’ Hyundai was destroyed. Kroger’s SUV had about $4,000 damage,  Hodgson said.

Canton Fire Department Assistant Chief Mark Blanchette said he had initially called for an extrication tool from Rumford when the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m., but the order was cancelled when he saw that his department could handle the matter.

Several Canton firefighters responded to the scene, some diverting traffic. Also assisting was Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Tim Holland.
