INDUSTRY — Gloria Jean Smith, 63, of Industry, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 1, at her home.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1947, in Skowhegan, a daughter of Edna Moody. She attended local schools.

She worked as a machinist at Norridgewock Shoe and later G.H. Bass in Wilton, until the time of its closing. She then worked at Cianbro, retiring after 14 years, as a millwright.

She was passionate about the outdoors, with a love of camping, hunting, fishing and gardening. and was even responsible for the maintenance of a section of the Appalachian Trail. She loved animals and sketching, and had made some wonderful things woodworking.

Gloria is survived by her longtime companion, Carmen Rose, of Industry; a sister, Marilyn Heath and her husband, Everett, of Bingham and their son, Wayne Heath, of California; a stepdaughter, Catherine Keddy, of Madison and her sons, Josh and Jacob; a stepson, Robert Rose, and his wife, Diane, of New Sharon and their children, Dezariah, Samuel and Zatarea.

She was predeceased by her mother; a nephew, Everett Heath Jr.; a stepdaughter, Victoria; and a stepson, Danny Rose.
