WILTON — Registrations for the Summer Reading Program at Wilton Free Public Library are being accepted this week. Youngsters from preschool to young adults may sign up anytime for the programs and special events.
The program, “The Art of Reading,” kicks off with a theatrical performance, “Strega Nona,” by The Little Red Wagon Theatrical Troupe. It opens at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, in the Academy Hill gymnasium.
Visists from local illustrators and artists are planned, along with Maine authors and guest readers from the community, Trish Flint, organizer, said. Sessions will include an art project.
Author Nancy Prince of Wilton and author/illustrator Luanne Wrenn will discuss their book, “Libby’s Loons” on July 26. Another Maine author, Matt Tavares, is expected to discuss his book “Mudball” and his other works on Jully 20.
Story time takes place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and at 6 p.m. Thursdays. Arts and crafts are offered at 1 p.m. Fridays. The infant/toddler story time begins at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23, and continues throughout the summer at 10:30 a.m. Fridays.
Other events include a visit to the Wilton Blueberry Farm and a fundraising raffle and book sale during the Blueberry Festival.
Abbey, 5, and Sam, 7, children of Nicole and Adam Goodspeed, regularly visit the library and were there Wednesday to sign up for the summer program.
“The library was a selling point on why we wanted to move here,” Adam Goodspeed said. “There’s always new material.”
The Summer Reading Program is funded by the Tyngtown Club.
