AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is setting the date for a special legislative session for lawmakers to consider a congressional redistricting plan.
LePage announced Thursday the session will be held Sept. 27.
A bipartisan commission last month began the process of redrawing the boundaries of Maine’s two congressional districts after a federal judge ordered the Legislature to complete its work redrawing the line between the districts by Sept. 30 to reflect population changes in the 2010 census.
A three-judge panel ruled in June that Maine’s congressional districts are unconstitutional based on the latest census data and must be redrawn before the 2012 congressional elections.
Maine legislators will take up the commission’s plan when they convene Sept. 27.
