BRIDGTON — An 18-year-old woman accused of manslaughter in a fatal Harrison car crash last year entered no plea Monday in Bridgton District Court.

Morgan Kesseli of Paris faces charges of manslaughter, elevated aggravated assault, aggravated assault, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and aggravated driving to endanger. Thomas McLendon, 19, of Oxford was riding with her and was fatally injured in the crash.

The manslaughter and assault charges are Class A offenses. The accident took place on Oct. 21, 2010, when Kesseli was 17.

According to the accident report, at 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 21, Kesseli was driving north on Waterford Road in Harrison when she lost control of a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer owned by Lisa Palmer. She crossed the southbound lane and struck trees.

McLendon was fatally injured. Passengers Jacob Hill, who was 20 at the time, and Timothy Coffin, who was 21, were also hurt.

Members of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Windham Police Department investigated and concluded excessive speed was the primary factor in the accident.

At Monday’s hearing, Kesseli requested use of her car to get to college. Her bail conditions included orders she live with her parents, have no contact with Timothy Coffin and have no use of motor vehicles.

Judge Keith Powers allowed her to drive twice a week to classes at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. Powers said any deviation from a straight drive between her Paris home and the college would constitute a violation of her bail.

She also requested driving once a week to a class in Paris, but Powers said walking would be possible in that case.

Kesseli has several violations on her driving record, including a conviction for driving 72 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
