Promising newcomers: Seniors — Chris Bowers (6-2 center), Danny Miles (5-10 guard), Connor Doyle (5-10 guard), Matt Smith (6-1 forward); Freshmen — Taylor Morang (5-8 guard), Ben Allen (5-11 forward), Matt Sekerak (5-8 guard), Dakota Carter (6-0 forward).
Outlook: Winthrop has its fourth different coach in five years. MacArthur, who teaches at the school, has successfully brought four seniors back to the program who had previously quit the game. He also has installed a new system emphasizing tenacious, half-court defense. The Ramblers don’t have great size, so they will rely on those quick feet and scrappy sensibilities. Foster is a returning starter. Of the freshmen, Morang should make an immediate impact. The Ramblers hope to snap a rare two-year tournament drought.
