The YWCA will offer “Exploring the World Around Us Through Art” with Lynda Leonas on Tuesdays starting Jan. 10. This class has been expanded to a 10-week class to give greater opportunity to explore in depth both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art. The visual arts teach children to create, problem-solve, think critically and expand ability for self expression. Age groups from ages 5-18 will produce individual works of art in two-dimensional illustration with pencil, charcoal, soft and oil pastels; painting in watercolors and acrylics; as well as works of art in three-dimensional sculpture with clay. Grades k-2 will meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Cost is $125. Grades 3-6 meet from 5:45-6:45; $125. Grades 7-12, 7-8:30, $150. Payments will be accepted in two separate installments due Jan. 9 and Feb. 13. For more information contact the YWCA at 795-4050 or visit www.ywcamaine.org.
