LISBON — The Lisbon Promotions Committee announced that Jennifer Libby of Lisbon Falls was the winner of the basket of gift certificates and merchandise offered by downtown businesses as part of the committee’s recent Very Merry Main Street event, held on Dec. 3 in Lisbon Falls.

The gift basket, with an estimated value of $500, was won by Libby after a drawing from nearly 70 entries submitted by Very Merry Main Street attendees, who were tasked with visiting at least six of 13 participating downtown businesses during the event in order to enter the drawing. The businesses stamped the entry card of each visitor.

“Both the businesses that participated and the folks that attended really seemed to have a good time with this,” said Ross Cunningham, chairman of the Promotions Committee. “It was great to see the downtown all lit up and filled with people.”

The downtown promotion capped an evening of holiday fun that began with the first-ever tree lighting at the nearby MTM Community Center. An estimated crowd of 300 welcomed Santa Claus to Lisbon and cheered as St. Nick lit the tree and marked the arrival of the Christmas season to town.

A horse-drawn wagon then ferried revelers between the MTM and the downtown, while more than 100 families posed for pictures with Santa in a makeshift “North Pole” in the MTM gym. Nearby, downtown businesses held open house receptions which included musical performances from the likes of Present Company and Steve Hildonen.

It was the third annual Very Merry Main Street, according to organizers.
