Public supper

MEXICO — A public supper will be served at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Mexico Congregational Church, UCC (the “Green Church”). The menu consists of roast pork, vegetables, homemade rolls and pies. Adults, $8 and under 12, $3. Takeouts will be available after 5:30; call 364-8603.

Valentine dance

RUMFORD — A Valentine dance will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 11, at the American Legion Hall. Music by Stereo-Type. $8 per person or $15 per couple. Benefits the Mexico Firefighters Relief Association’s ATV Fundraiser.

Society meeting

RUMFORD — The Rumford Historical Society’s meeting of the members will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the auditorium of the Municipal Building on Congress Street.

Following the brief business meeting, the program will be provided by the treasurer, Lewis Irish. At the time that Rumford and Mexico were combining into one joint school district, Lewis was chairman of the Sports Committee. He served in conjunction with Robert Dempsey, who was then chairman of the Merger Committee. Since the combining of two formerly rival school districts was of real historical significance to both towns, it is important that the history of the merger be documented for the society’s records.

Following the meeting, light refreshments will be served.

The meeting is open to the public. People attending the meeting are asked to enter and exit the River Street entrance, by the Police Dept.
