JAY — A local man was charged Wednesday with cultivating marijuana after police received tip about an indoor growing operation.

Police seized 78 marijuana plants and growing equipment Tuesday at a residence on Old Jay Hill Road, Jay Detective Richard Caton IV said.

Barry Webber, 47, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging unpaid fines or fees. He was taken to the Franklin County jail in Farmington and released on $210 cash bail that day.

Officer Mike Mejia issued Webber a summons Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of cultivating marijuana, Caton said.

He was also issued a summons on two civil violations of unlawful possession of a usable amount of marijuana and sale and use of drug paraphernalia, he said.

Police received information Tuesday and launched an investigation, Caton said.

Seven of the 78 plants were considered to be mature and had a street value of about $3,000, he said.

He is scheduled to appear Thursday, May 24, in 12th District Court in Farmington.
