UPTON — A local man is accused of attacking a couple, riding an ATV drunk and furnishing alcohol to his 19-year-old girlfriend.

Clayton T. Svendberg, 20, of 138 Back St., was arrested early Thursday on charges of domestic assault, criminal mischief, aggravated assault, operating an ATV under the influence and furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol.

According to a report by Deputy George Cayer of the Oxford County Sheriff”s Office, Cayer and Sgt. Matthew Baker responded to an assault call at an Upton residence late Wednesday night. When they arrived, they saw Svendberg cross the street on an ATV and head up a dirt road. Cayer pulled over Svendberg, whose girlfriend was also riding on the ATV.

Svendberg was taken to the ground and handcuffed, Cayer wrote, because the call indicated Svendberg had a baseball bat and a .22-caliber rifle.

A man and woman said Svendberg broke into their home through the basement and attacked them. The man’s head was bloodied. Cayer wrote that Svendberg was intoxicated, and that his girlfriend was as well. She said she had been drinking at Svendberg’s home.

Svendberg’s bail was set Friday at $1,000 cash. He is due to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Nov. 6.
