With a situation that’s is decidedly complicated, interesting developments are looked for in Lewiston politics within the next few hours. Seldom has a new city government faced a similar condition. The situation in Ward Two is causing chief discussion and people are asking if Charles G. English, the democratic candidate to whom a certificate of election has been issued, although the court has decided that five more votes were cast for the republican-citizen candidate, will take his seat. If Mr. English takes his seat, the democrats will have four out of the seven votes in the upper board. Should he not, the vote would stand three to three.

50 years ago, 1963
A Lewiston young man was sentenced to a full day of hard labor after he pleaded guilty today at Lewiston Municipal Court to a malicious mischief charge stemming from an incident last night at the Central Maine Youth Center. The 19-year-old youth was charged with exploding fireworks during the championship hockey game between Lewiston and Waterville high schools. Judge Paul A. Cote sentenced him to one day of labor at the ice arena.

25 years ago, 1988
Building a new non-graded elementary or a school for the performing arts are just two of a number of options scheduled for an Auburn School Committee discussion tomorrow night on long-term solutions to projected over-crowding of schools. The leasing of portable classrooms has been suggested by Superintendent Roy D. Loux as a short-term solution to the expected need for three extra classrooms next fall.
