SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Air Force Airman Howard Trudeau graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Trudeau is the son of Brian Trudeau of Station Road, Hebron. He is a 2012 graduate of Oxford Hills High School, Norway.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The following area residents graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson.

Army National Guard Pvt. Sarah J. Colborn is the daughter of William Colborn and stepdaughter of Sheryl Hopkins, both of Churchill Lane, Philadelphia, Pa. She is the sister of Janet Garrett of Bryant Road, Hebron. She is a 2012 graduate of Academy at Palumbo, Philadelphia, Pa.

Army National Guard Pvt. Josh M. VanHise is the son of Jennifer Hamel and stepson of Daniel Hamel, both of Hartland, Vt. He is also the son of Oliver VanHise of Quinn Road, Windham. He is a 2010 graduate of Windsor High School, Vt.

Army National Guard Pvt. Samuel S. Newton is the son of Carol and Donald Newton of Mink Farm Road, South Paris. He is the brother of Aaron Newton of Lisbon Street, Lisbon. He is a 1999 graduate of Casco Learning Center.

Army Pfc. Jared M. Gilbert is the son of Michael Gilbert of Lillian Way, Scarborough, and grandson of William Gilbert of Patricia Drive, Topsham. He is a 2012 graduate of Scarborough High School.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
