KINGFIELD — A Madison man was arrested Monday at Somerset County Jail in Madison on a charge of felony robbery in connection to an armed robbery at Tranten’s Too at about 8 p.m. on June 18, 2012.
Kaleb Bowring, 20, was arrested on the robbery charge and has been identified as the actual armed robber, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said Monday. Bowring is currently serving time for a previous robbery of a Irving’s gas station in Norridgewock on the same day as the Tranten’s Too robbery, Nichols said.
Bowring is being held on $10,000 cash bail on the Franklin County charges, Nichols said.
Maine State Police Detective Randall Keaten and Franklin County Detective Lt. David St. Laurent received confessions from Bowring and another suspect, a 22-year-old man from Vassalboro, who is accused of driving the getaway vehicle during the robbery, Nichols said.
Charges against the second suspect will be heard by a Franklin County grand jury in the future, he said. That suspect is also at the Somerset County Jail on unrelated charges.
Somerset County investigators solved that Norridgewock case, which is the reason Bowering is currently in jail, Nichols said.
Keaten and St. Laurent have been conducting the joint investigation that included knocking on doors and reviewing surveillance tapes from another store in Somerset County. The two suspects were interviewed by detectives at the Madison jail.
Franklin County Cpl. Stephen Charles was the initial investigator in the case and worked with St. Laurent since last summer, trying to find new leads and conducting interviews, Nichols said.
At the time of the robbery, both suspects were living at a campsite in Embden.
Both admit to splitting the $800 in cash from the robbery.
The weapon used was identified by both as a pellet gun and has not been recovered, Nichols said.
It was initially described as a silver handgun last year. Charles said last year that witness described the robber as wearing a red bandana covering the lower part of his face.
