Your dad generally likes to keep things low key, but this year with family coming in from all over the country, he has decided that a Father’s Day party would be a good idea. Everyone can get together and catch up on things over a good meal.

First things first, as the host of the event, you need to find out what kind of party your dad would like to have. Perhaps he would like a backyard barbecue. Perhaps he would like an intimate gathering at a local restaurant. Perhaps he would like a large catered affair at a banquet hall. Once you know what type of party your dad wants, you can find a location. Keep in mind that the earlier you do this, the better chance you will have of booking a good location.

With the type of party settled, you can move on to the invitations and décor. These should suit the tone of the party. For an informal occasion, phone calls or e-mails might suffice. For a formal affair, invitations are advised. If you are having the party in a location off-site, you may need to call beforehand and find out if you can decorate for the event. Some places will allow decorating, while others won’t. You don’t need to spend a bundle to decorate for the party. Just think about the tone of the event and the preferences of your dad, and go from here.

Traditional decorations include balloons, streamers and banners. Some people like to use flowers and lights as well. Photos of your dad and quotes about him or fathers in general are also popular. Need a quick centerpiece? Consider setting up some Father’s Day cards around a bowl of candy in the center of each of the tables. Don’t forget about the entrance to the party. If you can, decorate it so guests will know where the party is taking place.

As you decorate, make sure there are enough tables and chairs for everyone coming and use tableware fit for the occasion. Do your best to set the stage for a fun, fabulous party for one and all.
