AUBURN — Chocolate lovers had an opportunity to indulge their passion while supporting the SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels program this spring at the agency’s fourth annual ChocoLArt event at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The event, emceed by Danielle Waugh of WCSH Channel 6, welcomed more than 150 people to an afternoon of chocolate tasting, music by Three Point Trio and a silent art auction of more than 90 donated pieces by local artisans.
All proceeds went to the Meals on Wheels program, which provides meals to older adults who are homebound and unable to prepare their own meals. The program has a waiting list of more than 150 consumers.
Chocolate tasting was provided by local chocolatiers: Ahimsa Custom Cakes, The Bread Shack, Central Maine Community College Culinary Arts, Hilton Garden Inn American Grille, Maine Gourmet Chocolates, Pinky D’s Cupcakes, Rolly’s Diner & Catering and Y-Lime’s Gourmet Desserts.
Judges were: Chef Charles Izzi Jr., president of American Culinary Federation Maine Chapter; Legislative Rep. Nate Libby; Annette Nadeau, Bedard Medical; Michelle Ritcheson, Bangor Savings Bank; Joshua Shea, L/A Magazine; Linda Snyder, Gleason Media; and Danielle Waugh, WCSH 6.
Best Use of Chocolate awardees were Maine Gourmet Chocolates, first place, and Rolly’s Diner, second. Best Display awards went to The Bread Shack, first, and Pinky D’s, second. The overall Judge’s Awards went to Maine Gourmet Chocolates, first, and The Bread Shack, second. Rolly’s Diner won the coveted People’s Choice Award followed by Maine Gourmet Chocolates in second place.
