Food Mobile to visit Litchfield

LITCHFIELD — Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Food Mobile will be distributing around 7,000 pounds of food, including fresh produce and assortment of meats, essential nonperishable items and breads to people in need in the Litchfield area from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the Litchfield Central Fire Station, 2407 Hallowell Road. Anyone in need of emergency food assistance in Litchfield and the surrounding area is welcome to attend.

Folks are encouraged to bring a box or reusable bags.

Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Food Mobile allows them to expand their outreach to Maine’s neediest and most under-served families. It is designed to be a barrier-free distribution to communities whose demand for emergency and supplemental food has outgrown the capacity of local food pantries.

Library program on Guatemala

WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library will present a program on Helping Hands medical mission to Escuintla, Guatemala at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20.

Wayne resident Alberta Messer, pediatric nurse practitioner, will speak about the medical mission she took to Guatemala last winter. “I went on my first medical mission to the foothills of Guatemala thinking I would aid others in medical need,” she said. “Never did I realize how these humble and giving people served me in more ways than I could have imagined personally, professionally and spiritually.

“I would like to share how our medical mission, providing a variety of health care services in such a setting, met the health, social and spiritual needs of those families we served.”

The program and slide show will be held at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road, in downtown Wayne. The William House is directly across from the library. All are invited. For more information phone the library at 685-3612.

Bean, ham supper is June 22

LISBON — A home-baked bean and ham supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the United Methodist Church, School Street.

Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for ages 6-12 and free for under 6.

The supper is hosted by the Methodist Women.

Evening VBS in Sabattus

SABATTUS — A new evening Vacation Bible School will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. from June 24-28, at Community Baptist Church,9 Main St. It is open for all children in grades K through sixth.

Children will learn about what it was like in Paul’s day and experience some of the history of Athens in Bible time.

Fairy author to speak June 27

MONMOUTH — Lisa Gardner Walsh, author of “Fairy House Handbook” and “Fairy Garden Handbook,” will speak to the Monmouth Garden Club at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at the A Rise and Shine Bed and Breakfast on Route 135.

Her theme will be “Creating Your Garden Fairy Wonderland.” Topics to be discussed include selecting a site, what tools and materials to use, and many ideas on details and accessories to add to a fairy garden. Also explained will be bits of fairy lore, fairy do’s and don’ts and fairy wisdom. The public is invited.
