DEAR SUN SPOTS: Please help! During the 2011 Heywood yard sale in Norway, I accidentally sold two plastic photo carousels holding my 2- by 2-inch photo slides. All these photos are from the early 1970s showing my time in the U.S. Navy (Mediterranean Sea) and attending various types of auto races.

The Navy photos are from the USS Forestal, including jets and propeller planes. They include landings and takeoffs, moving around the flight deck, ships refueling at sea and being shadowed by a Russian frigate.

Cars include some NASCAR (Petty, Allison, Marcis, etc.), Trans AM (Donohue, Follmer, etc.), sports cars (Triumphs, Mustangs, Mclaren, etc.) and my brother’s Formula Vee.

My time with friends on liberty in Spain, France, Greece and Italy are also in there.

I will pay a reward for the return of my memories from those years. Thanking you in advance. — Michael Blackburn, 207-743-0194

ANSWER: What a devastating loss. I do hope someone returns them.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you very much for all you do for everyone.

Recently I bought a romance novel paperback book at a Goodwill store and found a black-and-white photo in it. More than likely it was used as a bookmark.

It is a picture of a little girl with short hair in a dress. She is standing on the lawn in front of a house with a screened-in porch. Two long stove steps lead to the porch. A very old car can be seen in the background.

Someone wrote a date on the edge of the picture, but I’m not sure of the last number. It could be 1934, 1937 or 1939.

If you would like the picture back, please call me and I will gladly return it to you. Thanks. — Penny, Durham, 207-353-2344

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am hoping you or your readers can help me find a source for postcards of the road sign in Maine that shows the distance to all the cities in Maine named after countries. There are about 10 of them listed on the signpost, from China to Sweden and all of the towns in between.

Thank you for any help you can give me. I have had no luck. — Greta, Rumford

ANSWER: With today’s digital photography and modern printing, you need not buy those postcards; you can make your own. All you need is a photograph of the sign, which can then be printed onto postcards, along with your own personal message, return address, etc., printed on them, too.

Lots of places make postcards for the holiday season at very reasonable prices — office supply stores, drugstores, probably Walmart, too.

The biggest hitch I see is if you have no digital camera, but surely a grandchild or friend would journey over to Lynchville to shoot that sign for you?

As for buying the postcard, your best bet seems to be a place like Made in Maine. Sun Spots called the Augusta store (622-5723), where they said they usually carry them, but appeared to be out. Their sister store in Waterville (872-7378) may have them. Or you can try Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine Portland (828-1515) and Bath (443-2225).

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking to purchase a Kodak carousel projector 750H in working condition. We have hundreds of slides to view before having them transferred to a DVD. — Connie, Lewiston, 207-782-8490
