LISBON — A benefit for Nicole Starbird, a 33-year-old mother of two young children, will be held from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Left Hand Club on Wagg Road.
Proceeds from the benefit will help Starbird and her family with out-of-pocket expenses from medical bills incurred during her battle with end-stage renal disease, dialysis and kidney transplant.
Costume winners and raffles will be drawn throughout the evening. Tickets are $10 and advance tickets include one raffle ticket. Buffet-style dinner will be provided with ticket purchase. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the benefit for a variety of items including jewelry, handcrafted glasses, gift cards and more. Music will be provided by Sidetrack.
For more information or to get advance tickets, contact Kathy Starbird at [email protected] or 353-5310.
Starbird was diagnosed with a form of vasculitis called Henoch Schonlein Purpura in 2011. Henoch Schonlein Purpura in adults is an uncommon condition involving inflammation of blood vessels caused by an immune system response. It causes small blood vessel hemorrhages under the skin and, in Nicole’s case, it affected her kidneys and progressed to kidney failure in spite of chemo treatments to lower her immune system, which was attacking her kidneys.
Starbird is currently on both the national and New England organ transplant list awaiting a kidney. Anyone interested in being tested as a living donor or learning more about being a living donor, they may contact the Maine Transplant Program at 207-662-7185 and speak with Roxanne Taylor.
