1935 – 2013

AUGUSTA — Robert W. Sampson, 78, of North Turner, died Monday, Oct. 22, at Togus VA Medical Center.

He was born on March 3, 1935, in Turner, to parents Cleon and Margaret (Tidswell) Sampson.

Robert attended local schools. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Mitcher DL2 during the Korean War and worked in Connecticut for 25 years as a machinist.

He married Goldie Richardson on Nov. 1, 1957. Together they owned and operated Bear Pond Variety in North Turner for 23 years. Robert was an avid outdoorsman and liked to go hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing horseshoes and was a New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Goldie Sampson; daughter, Bonnie and her husband, David McLaughlin, of Turner; son, Jody Sampson of Turner; special grandsons, Derek McLaughlin and his girlfriend, Abbey Randall, Scott McLaughlin and Gabriel Sampson; two brothers; three sisters; and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his parents; and his grandson, Brett McLaughlin.

The family would like to thank the staff in the Special Care Unit at Togus; and friends, Gregg Trask and Susan Cox of Turner, and Kip and Bev Trembley of Connecticut.
