Jean Gowen Walden, 78, transitioned to her eternal home Saturday, November 9, 2013 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Springvale, Maine, April 24, 1935, she was the daughter of Fred G. Sr. and Glenna Hobbs Gowen.

Jean graduated from Sanford High School in Sanford, Maine and attended Gordon College in Boston, MA, now in Wenham, MA, where she met Robert L. Walden Sr., whom she married on June 7, 1955.

Jean was a devoted wife and mother. She spent her life in ministry alongside her husband Rev. Robert L. Walden. They served together in American Baptist Churches in Haverhill, MA, Oswego, NY, Madison, ME, Camden, ME and Auburn, ME. Jean has lived in Greenwood, IN since 2000 and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenwood.

Jean is predeceased by her parents Fred G. Gowen and Glenna Hobbs Gowen. She is also predeceased by her husband Rev. Robert L. Walden. She is survived by her children Katherine W. Morrow and her husband Gordon of Greenwood, IN, Robert L. Walden Jr. and his wife Carrie of Warren, ME, Wendy J. Walden of Greenwood, IN; three beloved granddaughters, Melissa Soiett, Rev. Heather Henson and Heidi Williams; four beloved Great-Grandchildren; brother Fred Gowen Jr. and his wife MaryLou of Scarbrough, ME, sister Deborah Gowen of Leesburg FL; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM followed by a service celebrating Jean’s life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November, 16, 2013 at Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, Maine with Jean’s granddaughter, Rev. Heather Henson officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale. A reception will take place after the burial at The Family Center located next door to the Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made in Jean’s name to the mission funds at either First Baptist Church of Greenwood, 99 Main St., Greenwood, IN 46142 or Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court Street, Auburn, ME 04210.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
