Stress management workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free stress management workshop for prostate cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Coping with Holiday Stress” will take place during the prostate cancer support group meeting from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

The holidays can be a stressful time of year, particularly for those who are affected by cancer. Oncology Counselor Theresa Beaudette, LCSW, ACHP-SW, will present an informational session on managing stress through the holidays for patients who are newly diagnosed, in treatment or in recovery.

Gathering after 9:30 a.m. service

AUBURN — St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 78 Pleasant St., recently held a special invitation to the ladies of the church to attend 9:30 a.m. service on Nov. 20, followed by a tea and dessert social hour. The conversation at the social hour was both informal and joyful, lead by The Rev. Dan Warren. Plans are for more gatherings in the near future.

Free Thanksgiving dinner

LEWISTON — A free Thanksgiving dinner will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at Hope Haven Gospel Mission, 209 Lincoln St. All are welcome.

Pet Food Drop is at Shaw’s

LEWISTON — Beginning on Friday, Nov. 29, the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s Annual Pet Food Drop will be underway at Shaw’s supermarkets in Lewiston and Auburn. The stores will have drop boxes available for much-needed donations of pet food and supplies until Jan. 2.

The shelter relies heavily on the donations by the community of food and supplies for the animals that it cares for. Over 100 pounds of dog food and 70 pounds of cat food are needed daily to feed the nearly 5,500 animals that pass through the shelter’s doors.

LEWISTON — The YWCA Christmas Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 130 East Ave. 

Sabattus Legion craft fair Nov. 30

SABATTUS — Sabattus American Legion will host its annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30. Crafters’ goods will fill the upstairs and downstairs of the Legion Hall.

Visitors can enjoy a continental breakfast and lunch at the post’s “Special Cafe.” The post is at 40 Island Road.

Rec Advisory Board seeks volunteers

AUBURN — The city of Auburn is looking for volunteers to serve on the Recreation and Special Events Advisory Board, formerly named the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Positions are available for four full members and two alternate members.
