DIXFIELD — Emergency responders were called to a multi-vehicle accident on Route 2, just east of Canton Point Road late Friday afternoon.

Initial radio traffic at about 4:45 p.m. indicated that four vehicles were involved, including a logging truck, and that extrication equipment was needed.

Dixfield firefighters initially shut down Route 2, routing traffic onto the Canton Point and Common roads, which loop around the accident scene to the southeast. Attempts by the Sun Journal to reach the scene were rebuffed by firefighters. Dixfield police were not available later to provide information.

Peru firefighters were also called to the scene to help handle traffic.

An arriving Med-Care ambulance official radioed dispatch in Paris that there were four patients and three vehicles involved.

Rumford fire Lt. Sylvanus “Butch” Glover said Friday evening that one person was trapped in a vehicle. Rumford firefighters extricated the person by taking the doors off with their extrication equipment. He said there were three vehicles involved, but no logging truck.
