Passport Dinner features Russia

WILTON — Wilson Grange will travel to Russia for its Passport Dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at 1338 Main St. in East Wilton, across from Shelly’s Hometown Market. Snow date is Saturday, March 1, also at 6 p.m.

Authentic Russian fare such as borscht, stroganoff, Russian carrot salad, Russian tea cakes and black tea will be featured. A vegetarian option always is available.

After the dinner, Natasha Erb, a native of Syktyvkar, who grew up in a small village near the Arctic Circle, will give a presentation on some of the traditions and culture of Russia. She’ll also tell a bit about how she and her fellow citizens dealt with weather there that usually is colder than we’ve experienced lately.

United Methodist public breakfast

KINGFIELD — The Kingfield United Methodist Church, 51 High St., will have an all-you-can-eat public breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1.

The menu will include scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home-fries, French toast, pancakes, sausage gravy with biscuit, muffins, coffee, tea, orange juice and apple juice.

Cost is $5 per person, a children’s and a family rate are available.

Book sale, boutique, breakfast at library

WAYNE — A book sale, boutique and breakfast will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 1, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.

First Saturdays at the Williams House offer coffee or tea and quiche or a scone, and as well as the ongoing book sale and boutique. Wi-fi is available for laptops. All proceeds benefit the Cary Memorial Library.

Friendship squares dance is March 2

WILTON — The Friendship Squares will host a square and round dance from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the Cushing School.

The dance will be mainstream/mainstream plus. The caller will be Bill Fulton. Carol Arsenault will be the cuer. Admission is $6 per person.

Benefit supper for Diane Lefever

FAYETTE — A benefit supper for Diane Lefever of Fayette will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Fayette Central School.

Lefever has been recently diagnosed with lung cancer. She has a very challenging road ahead of her. The plan is to aggressively radiate the cancerous tumor five days a week for five weeks, then hit it with chemotherapy. Once the tumor has shrunk to an operable size the surgeon will remove it.

Money is being raised for the family to help with the medical, travel and any other unexpected expenses. Diane is married to Ken. They have five children, two of whom are still in school — William, a sophomore, and Adrian, a seventh-grader.
