AUGUSTA – Maine residents are urged to check the state database for unclaimed property. The annual list was released last week.
Every year the Office of the State Treasurer releases its annual list of unclaimed property, which consists of money and other personal assets that are considered lost or abandoned when an owner cannot be located. Funds on the list could be from forgotten bank accounts, matured CDs, or even an unexpected inheritance.
There is no fee to process an unclaimed property claim. Residents may go online to search for unclaimed property at http://www.maine.gov/unclaimed.
