NORWAY — David W. Millett died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 10.

David was the son of Gordon D. and G. Mary Millett of Norway, the third of nine children. He married the former Irene Lund in 1971, and together, they raised two daughters, Lynette and Donna. David was also very proud to be called “Papa” by his grandson, Marcus.

David was very active throughout his adult life. He joined the Norway Fire Department as a volunteer in 1972, eventually serving as captain of Engine 2 and most recently as safety officer. David was also a per diem deputy sheriff.

In the 1980s, David was secretary/treasurer of the Oxford Hills Men’s Softball League and was very instrumental in the installation of lights at the fairground’s field. His team was league champion three times.

David was past president of the Tuesday Night and Thursday Night Men’s Leagues at Oxford Hills Bowling Lanes. His team, the Big M’s, included his brothers and a couple of friends. The first league championship they won was in the year after the death of his father, who was an avid bowler as well.

David was formerly employed as a mechanic at Main Street Texaco in South Paris, a salesman and manager at Oxford Foods in Norway and a purchasing agent at Gilman Electric in Auburn. He then fulfilled a lifelong dream and, with his wife, owned and managed the popular Millett’s Variety for 14 years.
