AUGUSTA – The Maine Republican Party has announced that Lee Jackson of Old Town was recently honored as a “Rising Star” by the Republican National Committee at their spring meeting in Memphis, Tennessee.
Jackson is 19 years old and a Political Science major at The University of Maine. He was born and raised in Maine and has lived in Old Town for the majority of his life. This past November, Jackson was elected to represent the people of Old Town on The RSU 34 Board of Directors (Old Town School Board.) Spending under $200, Lee received 614 votes and defeated a long-time incumbent.
At the University of Maine, Jackson is a member of the UMaine College Republicans and is the Senior Policy Advisor to the President of the University of Maine Student Government, Inc. a $1 million nonprofit organization.
Jackson also is a leader in #Gen207, the Maine Republican Party’s youth initiative. He has spoken around the state at #Gen207’s “Ask Me (Almost) Anything” forums.
“I offer my hearty congratulations to Lee for his recognition as a Rising Star in the Republican Party. Lee has become a valuable member of the Maine GOP’s youth initiative, #Gen207, and a friend,” said Maine GOP Chairman Rick Bennett. “As we move forward, we will rely on Lee to show young people across our great state that the Maine GOP is the party that supports and protects freedom and opportunity for Lee’s generation. I’m confident that this recognition by the RNC is just the start of what will be an exciting journey in politics for Lee Jackson.”
“Congratulations to Lee Jackson for his Rising Star award from the RNC. He is indeed a rising star with his efforts on behalf of the #Gen207 youth initiative, his work on this year’s state convention, and his service on his local school board. Lee represents the diversity and strength of today’s Republican Party, which unites all Americans with its ideals of freedom and opportunity for all,” said Rep. Alex Willette, the Maine GOP’s Republican National Committeeman and Assistant Republican Leader of the Maine House of Representatives.
