New Auburn Senior Citizens

AUBURN — The New Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at noon, Wednesday, June 4, followed by light lunch and bingo. The group meets at Sacred Heart Church on Western Avenue. An elevator is available.

The next dinner will be Wednesday, June 18. The meal will be KFC for $5, followed by bingo.

All seniors age 60 and older are welcome to attend off-Wednesday bingo at noon on June 11 and June 25.

New members, 60 years and older, are welcome.

Knights plan bean, casserole supper

SABATTUS — The Knights of Columbus of the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish will sponsor a baked beans and casserole supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Our Lady of the Rosary, 131 High St.

Proceeds will benefit parish programs.

Contributions for the complete supper including desserts and beverages are $7.50 for adults, $3 for children under 12.

Harvest preservation workshop

LISBON FALLS — University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s Preserving the Harvest workshop will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Little Ridge Farm, 101 Gould Road.

The workshop will include hands-on, USDA-recommended hot water bath canning and freezing food preservation methods. Learn to preserve pickles, jam, vegetables and fruits, as well as rhubarb orange chutney. Home food preservation allows for year-round consumption of locally grown foods and enables preservers to control additives, including sugar and sodium.

Fresh produce, canning jars and other canning equipment will be provided. Participants should bring a potholder. Cost is $15 per person; partial scholarships are available. Alzheimer’s: Legal, financial planning

LEWISTON — The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter will present the free workshop Legal and Financial Planning from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, June 16, at SeniorPlus, 8 Falcon Road.

The legal and financial planning education program will provide information for families and individuals dealing with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. This interactive two-part program will give attendees a chance to learn about important legal and financial issues to consider, how to put plans in place and how to access legal and financial resources.

This program will cover the following topics: Making legal plans that fit your needs; Legal documents you’ll need and what they mean for all of you; How to find legal and financial assistance; Practical strategies for making a long-term plan of care; Tax deductions and credits; Government programs that can help pay for care.

Vacation Bible School openings

AUBURN — Auburn United Methodist Church’s Vacation Bible School is titled “Workshop of Wonders – Imagine and Build with God.” It is scheduled for 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. July 21-25. It is open to all children age 5 through the completion of fourth grade.

This adventure includes music that will wow your ears, interactive Bible fun, super science, cool crafts, mission work, yummy snacks, great games and even more.
