Tri -Town Seniors elect officers

JAY — On May 19 the Tri -Town Seniors held their last meeting for the season. A BBQ was served at noon followed by a short meeting. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted as read.

The election of officers and board of directors was held. The new slate of officers for the coming year beginning Sept. 8 is Fernande Doiron. president; Pat Couture, vice president; Gail Laverdiere, treasurer; Joyce Richards, assistant treasurer; Nancy Couture, secretary; Theresa Bilodeau, assistant secretary; and Doris Tripp, scribe.

The three board members are Rita Fuller, Pat Laverdiere and Marlene Newhall.

There are no formal meetings in June, July and August, but some members are meeting twice a month for socializing only, no meetings On Sept. 8 a potluck lunch will be held at noon.

Anyone in the area is invited to join. Meetings are held every Monday at St. Rose Parish Hall at 1p.m. For more information, call Fern at 897-2782.

Fizz Boom is reading theme

NORWAY — Children ages 6-12 will explore the many wonders of science this summer as Norway Memorial Library presents “Fizz, Boom, Read!” Activities may include science experiments, robot building, nature explorations and more.

This summer, the library again will offer free weekly activities for children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. There are programs, prizes, story times and a mad science book club. Families are invited to come to registration at the Guy E. Rowe School Cafetorium, Tuesday, June 17, from 9 to 11 a.m.

George Smith is Fish & Game speaker

PARIS — George Smith will be the guest speaker at the Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 18, at the NPF&G Clubhouse, 744 Buckfield Road.

Smith has been a prolific writer about Maine’s outdoor sporting opportunities as well as being the former director of the Sportsmen’s Alliance of Maine. He will speak about his new book, “A Life Lived Outdoors – Reflections of a Maine Sportsman,” and will take questions about our outdoor heritage.

MEOC college workshop June 19

WILTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host a free workshop, “Essentials of College Planning,” for adults 19 and over at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Wilton Career Center, 865 US Route 2 East.

The free interactive workshop outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills.

The workshop lasts approximately two to three hours. Pre-registration is required.

Mechanic Falls Community Days

MECHANIC FALLS — The fifth annual Mechanic Falls Community Days will be held on Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21.

This year’s event will feature a couple’s competition, horse-drawn wagon rides, chicken barbecue, duck race, pancake breakfast, food vendors, games and more.

The event will also include the fifth annual Community Day Parade. This year’s parade theme is “Salute to the veterans.”

Amvets plan lobster cook-out

NORWAY — Amvets Post 777, serving Oxford Hills, will hold a lobster cook-out from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Oxford Fairgrounds.

The meal will include the choice of lobster/clams or steak, corn on the cob, coleslaw, drinks and desserts. A children’s menu will consist of hamburger or hot dogs, fries, drinks and dessert.

Ticket prices are $25 at the gate or $20 if purchased in advance; children’s menu tickets are $6. Tickets are available at Books-n-Things, Magquire Hill Market and Cut Loose.

Bowling Association meeting

FARMINGTON — Franklin County USBC Bowling Association will  hold its annual association membership meeting at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 22, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

There will be voting on the membership dues, which are currently $15. Also will be voting on directors and any other items brought up by the members.

Dog walk, dog show in Oxford

OXFORD — Fun Dog Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 22, rain or shine, at Oxford Fairgrounds, Route 26. Admission is free.

There will be a fundraising dog walk, Fun Dog Show at 1, games and contests, demonstrations, vendors and food.

Vacation Bible School “ranch”

OXFORD — The Oxford Advent Christian Church will hold Vacation Bible School during the week of June 23-27. Cowboys and cowgirls will round up at the Circle of Friends Ranch each evening from 6 to 8 at the church on Route 26.

Children 5 years old through sixth-grade are welcome.

During the week, participants will visit the Campfire, Lodge, Range Trail, Trading Post and Cookhouse. A closing service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 29, followed by a barbecue lunch. All are welcome to joins. For more information, call the church office at 743-7310.

‘Jungle Safari’ is VBS theme

LIVERMORE FALLS — Emmanuel Assembly of God in Livermore Falls, on Shuy Corner, Routes 133 and 17, will hold a Vacation Bible School Program from June 23-27.

The VBS is for kids 4 to 12 years old. The theme for the program is “Jungle Safari” where kids explore the nature of God. It will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each day. Registration will be at 5:30. The VBS will be packed with lessons, skits, games and crafts.

Antique Tractor Club festival

FARMINGTON — The Maine Antique Tractor Club will hold its 19th annual Tractor Festival on June 27-29 at the Farmington Fairgrounds. Gates open at 8 a.m. Daily fee, adults $5, children 11-17 $2 and 10 and under free.

Activities include antique tractor pulling, lawn and garden tractor pulling and tractor games, photography and pie baking contests, pedal tractor pull, scavenger hunt, barrel train rides for the kids, women’s skillet toss and men’s hammer toss, agriculture equipment and antique tractors on display, and a for sale area. Something for everyone.

RV and tent camping is available.

The special event is a charity pull on Friday night and the proceeds will be donated to the Maine Lung Association.

WF&G hosting 2-day pistol course

WILTON — A two-day Basic Pistol Course will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, and from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, July 20, at Wilton Fish & Game Club House, Route 2.

The class will be taught by an NRA-certified pistol instructor.

Run/walk benefits Equine Journeys

BRIDGTON — The fifth annual benefit Ridge Run/Walk 5K race will take place at 9 .am. Saturday, June 28, at Ring Farm, 551 Upper Ridge Road.

The $15 fee is a donation to Equine Journeys, an equine therapy program providing services for veterans and individuals with disabilities. The therapy horses at Equine Journeys are retired Standardbred race horses, enjoying a second career after being part of the Maine racing circuit.

The Ridge Run/Walk is a fun, family-oriented event, with prizes for the largest family group to complete the race, as well as fastest overall male and female, and masters level fastest male and female.
