DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’ve written before. What happened to Kelly LaBrecque? Is she on another station? — I.G., Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots found the following post on Kelly’s Facebook page:

“Bittersweet morning. I’m filling in for Mr. Mannix this morning for the very last time. I am sad to say that after 11 years I am leaving my NEWS CENTER family. My last show will be the noon show on June 3rd. HOWEVER, I am excited to say that I am moving on to an amazing gig as Director of Public Relations at Back in Motion Physical Therapy! I feel blessed that I will be working for a company that, in my opinion, is truly the best at what they do. In other great news..Fit at 5 will continue in the Facebook/blog world and the 2014 Fit at 5k is still set for this Fall! I hope to see you there.”

Kelly has many fans and has often appeared in the column. Sun Spots expects to have this question several more times despite the topic being today’s headline.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Please tell me what happened to Rob Caldwell, a longtime anchor on Channel 6? I’ve been south for the winter and wonder if I missed an announcement. Thanks so much for what you do. — Beverly McCann, bmac167@yahoo.com

ANSWER: According to www.wcsh6.com, Rob still co-anchors the 5:30 p.m. newscast and 207. However, that is no guarantee, as the same site still lists Kelly LaBrecque as a meteorologist and her photo is featured at the top of the website. Apparently no one has had time to update the content or the design.

A little more digging turned up a Facebook post that said Rob is on a nice long vacation and will be back soon.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you so much for all your help in finding the words to the three songs I asked about (April 10) and to Beverly for providing me the words for two of them (April 29). I will be calling her.

Thanks to all the other readers for their help, too (May 19, 29). So many people willing to help others. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all. — No Name, Gray

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I sent you a letter yesterday and was surprised to see it in the paper so quickly this morning. I thank you for that. Sorry to say you made an error in my email address, so here it is again: rbtrem@aol.com. I am taking your advice and supplying my phone number: 207-224-7313. — Roxanne Tremblay

ANSWER: Sun Spots is sorry about the error. In editing she dropped the first “r.”

As for the rapid publication of Roxanne’s letter, although Sun Spots usually uses letters in the order in which they arrive, there are exceptions. Some letters require considerable research. She currently has one outstanding question where it took a couple of weeks to find out who to talk to and when she finally did discovered that person was on vacation for two weeks.

Another factor she must consider is requests from readers to have their letters appear a certain day to fit their event or in some cases on Thursday through Saturday, because that is when they get the Sun Journal delivered.

Sun Spots also considers the nature of the request. When readers are looking for people, she tries to run those letters Thursday through Saturday for the widest possible audience.

Length is another issue. In Roxanne’s case, she got lucky because that Saturday column was short a few inches and she was looking for 1950s and ’60s Bear Pond Park rollerskaters for the Turner 4th of July parade.

As readers may have noted, Sun Spots frequently creates theme columns (class reunions, shopping searches, historical issues, home repairs), and in those instances, letters may be used quickly because they fit the column.

She also runs corrections as soon as possible.

Letters do go astray. The U.S. Postal Service, email and Sun Spots are not perfect. If you wrote and don’t see your letter within a few weeks, please let Sun Spots know.

OH MS. SUN SPOTS: An error was made in the phone number you had in the June 14 letter about the yard and bake sale for the Sixth Street Congregational Church. They had written for the people to call 785-2759 to pick up the leftovers. The correct number is 783-2759. The sale was yesterday, and we have a lot of leftovers. — Judy, JPBaird@roadrunner.com
