DIXFIELD — Two summer programs will be offered at Mountain Valley middle and high schools thanks to the Western Foothills Kids Association and three volunteers passionate about their skills.

Association director Barbara Radmore said Full STEAM Ahead will emphasize science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the arts. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 7-31, at Mountain Valley Middle School in Mexico.

Students will take part in video game design, programming, robotics, cooking, art gardens, ham radio skills, and other activities.

Justin Donnaruma, owner of Rumatec in Rumford, Brian Arsenault, an engineer at NewPage paper mill, and Erica Lynch-Ferrier, a recent college graduate, have volunteered to lead activities on technology and video production.

Applications are available at RSU 10 schools, or parents may contact Radmore for more information. The RSU 10 website also has information on the summer program.

Because the after-school/summer program grant has expired, Radmore and supporters have been fundraising so the summer program can continue. Several part-time people will be hired to lead other activities.

Noob to Ninja will offer instruction in video game design, programming and gaming to students ages 12 and older, and adults. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 26 and 27 at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford. There is no cost. Donnaruma will be the instructor.
