AUBURN — A first draft of a study that looks at transportation and land-use issues in New Auburn gets a City Council review Monday night.

Councilors are scheduled to get a 90-minute review of the New Auburn Village Center Study at a special meeting scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Auburn City Hall.

The plan builds on the New Auburn master plan adopted in 2011, which suggested creating a downtown village area, possibly rerouting traffic from Main Street after it crosses the bridge over the Little Androscoggin River.

The village study is meant to create a series of action steps to guide economic development, planning and zoning decisions, traffic, parks and other aspects of life in the area.

A steering committee of city councilors, staff and New Auburn property and business owners began meeting last spring to help draft the plan, which includes traffic counts for New Auburn intersections as well as an inventory of sidewalks, crosswalks, zoning codes, traffic signs and parking spaces in the area.
