Microsoft Windows Server course
AUBURN — Central Maine Community College will offer Microsoft Windows Server Administration Fundamentals from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Tuesday evenings, from Sept. 25 to Oct. 21.
The 32-hour Microsoft IT Academy training course prepares students for the Microsoft Technology Associate exam 98-365. Participants build an understanding of server installation, server rolls, active directory, storage and performance management.
The cost is $899 and includes all course materials, six-month access to a practice exam and one test voucher for the certification exam.

Girl Scout info meetings planned
AUBURN/LISBON — Girl Scouts of Maine will host parent information and registration meetings at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, and Thursday, Sept. 25, at Auburn Middle School, as well as 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Lisbon Community School.
Girls and adults are invited to attend to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best. Participants will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.

Free prostate cancer screening
LEWISTON — St. Mary’s Center for Family Urology is offering a free prostate cancer screening on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 99 Campus Ave., fourth floor, between 3:30 and 5 p.m.
The requirements to receive the free screening are as follows: must be 50 years old or older; agree to have the psa bloodwork and a digital rectal exam; last psa test was more than 12 months ago; have a family history of prostate cancer; not currently a patient with another urologist.

New classes at SAD 52 Adult Ed
TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education is offering a variety of fall classes.
Sign up for Watercolor Paint Party on Sept. 23 to enjoy a fun and relaxing night of painting. Receive step-by-step instructions and complete a 5×7 painting in one night. No experience is required and all supplies are included.
Register for GPS, Map & Compass Basics to receive information and skills to understand and use maps, compass and a GPS in the field. Students will need a compass for this class.
Explore district school expectations, teacher’s lesson plans and assertive discipline in a one-night class on Sept. 25. Methodist Church awards scholarships
MINOT — The Board of Trustees for the Minot United Methodist Church has announced the recipients of this year’s Hartwell Pratt Scholarship Grant. Eight grants of $1,000 each were awarded to Tyler Sturtevant, Kimberly Hofferberth, Emily Parisi, Olivia Foster, Kelsey Provost, Elizabeth Callahan, Cullen Lajoie and Savanna Patenaude.
The grant was set up to remember Pratt, who gave a part of his estate to the church. He believed in education and was interested in people obtaining it. In the spring of each year, church members and members of their immediate family may apply. Over the past 17 years, the board has awarded numerous grants to help many deserving students.
Program: nutrition in cancer care
LEWISTON — Join experts from St. Mary’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders for a free presentation about cancer and nutrition at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, 208 Bates St.
Topics will include nutrition to prevent cancer, foods that contain “cancer killing” antiangiogenic properties and choosing the right oil.
Dr. Yelena Patsiornik, a hematologist/oncologist with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, will discuss the science behind a well-balanced diet for cancer patients and the important role it plays in care and in preventing the disease.
Oncology certified nurses, Linda Merchant and Stephanie Buswell, will prepare easy and nutrient-dense recipes, and clinical dietitian Karen Emmi will answer questions about nutrition.

Bean, casserole supper Sept. 27
AUBURN — A bean and casserole supper will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave.
The menu includes: Baked Beans, Casseroles, Potato Salad, Hot Dogs, Coleslaw, Breads, Beverage, and Pie.
Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for ages 6-10 and free for five and under.

Free coffee, treats at Minot church
MINOT — The public is invited to join for free coffee and treats from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Minot United Methodist Church, corner of Route 121 and Empire Road.
Members will celebrate “Friendship Sunday” with a hymn sing at 9:45 a.m. and service at 10. Sunday School will be held in the vestry following “Children’s Time.”
The coffee is open to the public and everyone is welcome.
