DURHAM — Write-in candidate Michael Stewart of Hollowell Road was elected to the Board of Selectmen with 90 votes in a special election Tuesday.

He will be filling the seat vacated by Barry Baldwin, who resigned earlier in the year.

There were no candidates for the position in the special election. The next highest write-in tally, 84, was Kevin Madeau. According to Town Clerk Shannon Plourde, dozens of other write-in votes, mostly for individuals, were cast.

There were 2,128 ballots cast, which is 66 percent of the total registered voters.

The term will run through 2017.
