WILTON — State Sen. Thomas Saviello, R-Wilton, will be sworn in for his third term Dec. 3 to represent District 17 in the 127th Maine Legislature.

The district will include all of Franklin County, as well as the towns of Mount Vernon, Fayette and Belgrade in Kennebec County.

“My dream … we all get along and do the right thing for Franklin County and the state of Maine,” Saviello said.

Saviello said he intends to take a look at funding for the University of Maine System. He wants to see more transparency in the university’s financial picture, he said Friday.

“How much goes to education, how much to administration and research, where do our tax dollars go?” he asked. “Is it cost efficient? I want to dig into it a bit.”

The retired widower served four consecutive terms in the House of Representatives, the most allowed by law, before being elected to the Senate. He has completed 12 years in the Legislature.

In a pre-election questionnaire, the senator said the environment and natural resources are committee assignments he would like to have when the Legislature convenes Dec. 3.

Saviello is a Wilton selectperson and a member of the Wilton Lions and Farmington Rotary clubs.
