DAHLONEGA, Ga. — In ceremonies held Aug. 2 at the University of North Georgia, graduating cadets were awarded commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army or Georgia National Guard.

Aleana Y. Hooper earned a Bachelor of Science and commissioned in the U.S. Army Adjutant General. Hooper’s parents are Margueriti L. Hooper of New Sharon, Maine, and Paul R. Hooper of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. Hooper graduated from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, Maine, in 2000.

STANDISH — Meghan Bradley of Fryeburg was recently inducted as a member of the Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. Bradley is a senior psychology major.

Delta Epsilon Sigma is a national scholastic honor society for students of colleges and universities with a Catholic tradition. It was founded in 1939 to recognize academic accomplishments, to foster scholarly activities and to encourage a sense of intellectual community among its members. Membership is based on leadership, service and superior achievement in the student’s academic program.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Kathe Washburn of Harrison was named to the dean’s list for spring 2014 at Biola University.

MEADVILLE, Pa. — Rachel S. Raczynski of Auburn is named an Alden Scholar for 2013-14 academic year at Allegheny College.

This award is named in honor of Timothy Alden, founder of the college. Students who, in the course of a year, complete a minimum of 30 semester credit hours and achieve a grade point average of 3.20 or higher are designated as Alden Scholars.

She is a member of the class of 2015 at Allegheny College with a major in psychology and a minor in art history. She is the daughter of Dr. Paul Raczynski and Sharron Raczynski.

ORONO — Tabatha Hawkins, a University of Maine senior from Norway majoring in wildlife ecology, has been selected as a Dwight B. Demeritt Scholar in recognition as a top student in forest resources or wildlife.

Hawkins also is in the Honors College, conducting thesis research on the factors affecting the reintroduction success of the federally endangered tiger beetle in Nantucket. She is co-president the UMaine Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society, and is a student ambassador for the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Conservation Biology.

GOSHEN, Ind. — Kayla Gray, a sophomore biology major from Bridgton, is serving as a resident assistant at Goshen College for the 2014-15 academic year.

RAs provide leadership for their residence hall units, enforce residence life policies and develop programs and activities with floor members that contribute to social, spiritual and intellectual growth.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Jessica Sattler of Canton, a junior majoring in psychology, was part of the Model United Nations conference. They represented the University of New Haven and won a Distinguished Delegation Award.

CASTLETON, Vt. — Castleton student Erin Luce of Carrabassett Valley was recently inducted into the Castleton chapter of the Sigma Beta Delta International Business Honor Society.

Created nearly 20 years ago, the honor society’s purpose is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishments among students and to promote personal and professional growth. The society also recognizes those in the college and surrounding community who have demonstrated business excellence, achievement and service.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Jonathan Rebert of Farmington has been selected to appear in the 2015 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

A senior at Bob Jones University, Rebert is majoring in Bible and is one of a select number of students honored this year for academic achievement, campus leadership, service to the community and potential for continued success.

Who’s Who recipients are selected from students at more than 2,000 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations.
