PORTLAND (AP) — A winter storm is bringing a mix of snow and rain to portions of Maine, making for potentially hazardous driving conditions.

The Maine Turnpike, at the request of state police, has lowered speed limits on the highway to 45 miles per hour from mile 2 in Kittery to the end of the turnpike at mile 109. Motorists are being asked to use caution.

A few school systems cancelled classes Wednesday while others delayed the opening bell.

Forecasters say the mixed precipitation is expected to eventually change over to mostly rain from south to north during the day.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory through 10 a.m. for several areas including Bangor.
