AUGUSTA — Maine’s jobless rate dipped slightly last month to 5.7 percent.

In October, the state’s unemployment rate was 5.8 percent. The Maine Department of Labor said Friday that November’s rate was down 0.7 percent from one year ago.

Officials say there were 40,200 people unemployed last month, down from 45,600 last year.

Maine’s jobless rate remains slightly lower than the national rate of 5.8 percent. The average unemployment rate for New England is also at 5.8 percent.

Maine is doing better than Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, but its unemployment rate remains higher than New Hampshire and Vermont.
