The Police Department responded to 39 incidents in the past week, including the following:

* A Main Street resident said that while she was in the bathroom at 5:55 p.m. on Feb. 1, someone entered her apartment. Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said police checked the premises and found no intruder.

* At 5:26 p.m. on Jan. 30, police Lt. Dan Carrier assisted Dixfield police with an accident involving Dixfield’s new police cruiser. Chief Hodsdon said Dixfield officer Dustin Broughton was trying to stop a vehicle that ran a stop sign at Brackett and Bradley streets. Broughton tried to turn right onto Brackett Street, failed to gain traction in the snow and ice, and slid into a snowbank, taking out a mailbox.

The vehicle he was attempting to stop fled the scene. Hodsdon said the cruiser sustained driver-side front fender and side bumper damage, but he didn’t have an estimate. Broughton wasn’t injured. A Dixfield Public Works crew pulled the cruiser out of the snowbank.

* During several snowstorms, there were numerous slide-offs and fender-benders, Hodsdon said. Additionally, cabin fever from extreme cold temperatures and heavy snow is causing more domestic assaults, family fights, threats, and harassment calls than usual, he said.

Arrests

* Thomas A. Cousino, 57, Pine Street in Mexico, turned himself in at 2:25 p.m. Jan. 30 on a warrant charging an unpaid fine of $370. He was released on $430 cash bail. There is no further court date, because the bail was applied to the outstanding fine, an 11th District Court clerk said Friday. The fine was from a conviction Feb. 4, 2014, for placing bait to entice deer.
