DIXFIELD — Dirigo Middle and High schools’ assistant principal and athletic director, Mike Hutchins, will be leaving for Shanghai, China, in a few weeks to serve at an American school.

The RSU 10 board accepted his resignation Monday night.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Superintendent Craig King said.

He said Hutchins’ position will be advertised for someone to fill on an interim basis. A permanent candidate will be identified for the 2015-16 school year.

Also, the board learned that high school family consumer teacher, Karen Phair, was chosen by her peers as Family Consumer Education Teacher of the Year for the state.

In other personnel matters, longtime special education teacher Vicki Amoroso at Rumford Elementary School submitted her resignation. She is retiring June 30.
