DIXFIELD — Dirigo Middle and High schools’ assistant principal and athletic director, Mike Hutchins, will be leaving for Shanghai, China, in a few weeks to serve at an American school.

The RSU 10 board accepted his resignation Monday night.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Superintendent Craig King said.

He said Hutchins’ position will be advertised for someone to fill on an interim basis. A permanent candidate will be identified for the 2015-16 school year.

Also, the board learned that high school family consumer teacher, Karen Phair, was chosen by her peers as Family Consumer Education Teacher of the Year for the state.

In other personnel matters, longtime special education teacher Vicki Amoroso at Rumford Elementary School submitted her resignation. She is retiring June 30.

Also resigning was Buckfield Junior-Senior High School special education teacher, Heidi Bernier.

James Hersom was appointed middle school junior varsity baseball coach.

Buckfield Junior-Senior High School Principal George Reuter received permission from the board to allow several students to participate on the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School football team in Paris.

Regarding the 2015-16 budget, director of Buildings, Grounds and Transportation, Kenny Robbins, said about $286,000 will be needed for projects in several schools.

Among them are $104,000 for roof repair over the ramp at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, $85,000 for computer upgrades for the Dirigo High School boiler controls, and $36,000 for similar upgrades at the Buckfield school.
