ROXBURY — The Roxbury ATV Club has opened all but one of its trails, President Mike Worthley said Monday afternoon.
Worthley said that he planned to postpone opening trails until June 1 to allow them to dry out, but he rode them and found most of them were completely dry.
“We decided to open up the trails on May 14,” he said. “We ended up having a very good weekend.”
The Devil’s Den trail is still closed because of logging.
“The landowner wanted us to close it until they were done, so we closed off the trail on both ends,” Worthley said.
The Roxbury ATV Club will host its annual Lee Hodgkins Memorial Poker Run at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23. It honors former club member Gilbert “Lee” Hodgkins Jr., who died in 2005.
Buckets with envelopes in them will be set up every two or three miles along the trails.
“Each rider grabs an envelope, and everyone opens theirs when we get back to my house,” Worthley said. “Whoever has the best poker hand, wins.”
Worthley said riders can also drive on the open ATV trails in Dixfield, Mexico and Oquossoc.
“Rumford hasn’t opened yet because they don’t have any connector trails ready,” Worthley said.
