CASCO — Police identified Tuesday afternoon a 4-year-old child who was killed in a traffic crash on Poland Spring Road as Cameron Peterson of Gray.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said two others involved in the crash were seriously injured Tuesday shortly before 6 a.m.

The road was shut down in both directions following the crash.

A 1993 Honda Civic driven by Michael Minson, 28, of Gray passed a vehicle traveling west on Poland Spring Road, then  veered off the roadway when Minson lost control. The car crossed the center line and went off the road on the eastbound side and struck a utility pole, authorities wrote in a press release.

Crystal Peterson, 27, of Gray, also a passenger, was seriously injured and taken to Bridgton Hospital and later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Cameron Peterson was ejected on impact; it’s unclear whether he was secured in a child safety seat, authorities said.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area while crews are at the scene reconstructing the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
